Lesson task 1.2

This lesson task told me to make my own DIY light tent and photograph some chosen objects. Then I had to draw a diagram of my lighting scenario for each photograph and edit the photos with the software of my choice.

Unfortunately, I have been sick the past few weeks and this week I got hospitalized for a few days this week. This means I only had one day left to do this lesson task and because I’m not well yet I had to do it my way. I really wanted to do this task because I need practice for the product photography assignment coming up.

Skipped the DIY light tent part and used the light tent I borrowed from work instead. This is also the tent I will be using for the course assignment.

I used photoshop to crop the photographs, and for my fluffy object i had to do some adjustments to the background to give the object some white space (my object was too large for my tent and the side walls was showing in the back of the object).

Something fluffy

The only fluffy object I could find for this photo was my knitting project. This object was a bit to big for my light tent, but I had to try it anyway.

The “behind the scene photo” above shows how I photographed the fluffy object. I have lighting fThe “behind the scene photo” above shows how my light tent looks. The original photo shows how I ended up using the light, from the sides instead from the top. I also tried to place my softbox right behind the camera to bring light in the front of the object, but the lightbulb I bought was to weak, it did not make any difference.. for a more professional look I think it would have helped with a front lighting.

Something shiny

For the shiny object I also used the “diffuser” to create a softer light. I tried to place my light and camera at a 45 degree angle on each side of the object to minimize reflection. I also removed one of the led bars to minimize even more reflection.

Something hard

My something hard is a semi-shiny school book. Because of the reflection in the material I had to rise my front light pretty high, and I also used a soft light above the object.

Something liquid

To photograph the wine glasses I used both ledbars on top, one in the back and one in the front to even the lighting and avoid reflection from the glasses. I also used soft light.
